Madhubala – the very name conjures up vivid images of a love goddess possessing bewitching beauty, dazzling radiance, subtle sensuality, and, above all, a tantalizing screen presence. Her ‘reel life’ histrionic performances held (and continue to hold) audiences/viewers entranced. Her talent was phenomenal, and she could literally glide through a movie, whatever be the role. She could convey an impressive array of emotions with her eloquent eyes and facial expressions without resorting to melodramatic contortions. Tragedy, romance, comedy, drama, and what have you – she could take everything in her stride, exquisitely and flawlessly, as convincingly proved by superhits such as Mahal, Tarana, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and the magnum opus, Mughal-e-Azam. All this she achieved despite a major heart disease, which assumed serious proportions as her career soared. This volume presents a fascinating panorama not only of the ‘reel life’ Madhubala but also of the ‘real life’ Madhubala, who was an extremely compassionate and caring human being, but lived in the shadow of her dominant father. The author recounts her captivating saga, right from her first film – Basant (1942), as a child star, up to the magnificent Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and beyond. Enthralling cameos from her masterpieces such as Mahal, Mr & Mrs 55 and Amar, are depicted in graphic detail. Also, all the drama involved in her love affair with Dilip Kumar, which culminated in intense acrimony, has been poignantly portrayed. The last few years of her life were spent in virtual solitude in spite of her being married to Kishore Kumar, and death, in a way, came as a release for her.

I Want to Live The Story of Madhubala eBook Katijia Akbar

Short on details about her family specially her father if he is still alive or whether he regretted his decision of not accepting the proposal of Dilip Kumar and is mostly to blame for his daughter's destruction and by letting her marry a non muslim who was divorced and unsuitable choice as far as compartablity was concerned, beats his logic. From the time she stopped working in the movies till her death, was there any real effort made to find a cure for her ailment. What was her life like in those years staying constantly in her house or she did venture out once in while to socialize or meet friends and what happened to her wealth, was it inherited by her family or she died broke. Was devoted a lot on Movie Muglah-Azam.

I Want to Live The Story of Madhubala eBook Katijia Akbar Reviews

A well crafted read on the life of the most famous Indian screen Goddess of all times- Madhubala. I just wish more interviews with her surviving family members had been included.
I haven't finished reading this book
Khatija Akbar has done great job by doing thorough research on Madhobala, considering not much was known about about her private life, and the book is written after thirty years of her death. Writer has tried hard not intrude in the privacy of those who's life had crossed Madhobala and not be judgmental of those who were responsible for the tragedies of her main character. Books also highlights the golden era of Indian cinema, describing the legends of industry who lifted the little known industry of mid forties to its great heights by 1960. Madhobala was one of the most fascinating personality of that era. She is said to be the most beautiful face of Indian screen, she is also considered one of the top artist in field of acting. But she was also a human being, a person of great qualities, without this book her inner beauty, her traits as human, would have remained unknown. I will highly recommend this book for movie buff and particularly for the fans of Madhobala.
I have always been intrigued about an actress who was constantly underrated against her peers that I personally thought as mediocre both in natural beauty and enormous talent. Khatija Akbar's analytical approach of this outstanding performer(often, compared with Marilyn Monroe)in her book definitely demonstrated Madhubala's candid relationships with her costars-both males and females 'as they happened'! No gossips, no elements of 'yellow journalism'.
I absolutely enjoyed her book!!
Great book very inspiring
well i found it difficult to continue reading at a stretch.Nothing was new and if you are my age which is 56 and an avid reader and a newspaper addict there was no surprises as most of it has been covered by film journos. It is not an autobiography but a compilation of news reported over the years.
